Flu activity is increasing nationwide, and Texas is reporting high levels of illness, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

So far this flu season, the CDC estimates at least 5.3 million illnesses, 63,000 hospitalizations, and 2,700 deaths across the United States.

Health experts caution that flu season has not yet peaked. While cases are already rising, additional surges are expected in the coming weeks.

The good news is flu shots are still available, and they remain the best protection against serious illness and hospitalization.
